Oldtown is a historic unincorporated community located in Allegany County, Maryland, along the North Branch Potomac River. The town, which was originally a Native American settlement, played a significant role in early American frontier history.
It was an important crossing point on the Potomac River and served as a strategic location during the French and Indian War. The town was established as a European settlement in the mid-18th century and was an important stop along the historic Cumberland Road (now US Route 40). Today, Oldtown maintains its small-town character and serves as a reminder of Maryland's colonial and early American history.
