Old Bennington is a historic village located in Bennington County, Vermont. This well-preserved historic district, situated on a hill overlooking the larger town of Bennington, represents one of Vermont's earliest settlements dating back to the 18th century.
The village is notable for its collection of carefully maintained colonial and early Federal-style architecture, including several historic homes and public buildings. At its center stands the Old First Church, a remarkable example of colonial church architecture built in 1805, and the Bennington Battle Monument, Vermont's tallest human-made structure, which commemorates the important Revolutionary War Battle of Bennington in 1777. The village retains much of its original character and layout, with tree-lined streets and historic properties that reflect its significant role in Vermont's early history and cultural development.
