Neuf-Brisach is a historic fortified town located in the Grand Est region of France, near the Rhine River and the German border. Built between 1698 and 1707 under the direction of military engineer Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, it represents one of the most well-preserved examples of military architecture from the era of Louis XIV. The town was designed in an octagonal shape with a perfect geometric layout, featuring a double wall of fortifications and a complex defense system.
Since 2008, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Fortifications of Vauban." The town's cultural significance lies primarily in its military architectural heritage, with its remarkably preserved fortifications serving as a testament to 17th-century French military engineering and urban planning. Today, visitors can explore the historic ramparts, bastions, and the town's grid-pattern streets that have remained largely unchanged since its construction.
