Nagiso is a town located in the Kiso District of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Situated along the historic Nakasendo trade route, one of Japan's most important ancient highways connecting Edo (modern-day Tokyo) with Kyoto, Nagiso retains much of its traditional charm.
The town is particularly known for the Tsumago-juku, a former post town that has been carefully preserved to maintain its Edo period (1603-1867) appearance. The surrounding area features dense forests and mountains, characteristic of the Kiso Valley region.
Traditional craftsmanship and woodworking, utilizing the high-quality Kiso hinoki cypress native to the region, remain important aspects of local culture.
