Mullan is a historic mining town located in Idaho's Silver Valley region of the northern panhandle. Established in 1884 during the silver mining boom, it was named after John Mullan, a military officer who constructed the Mullan Road connecting Fort Benton, Montana with Fort Walla Walla, Washington.

The town's development and cultural heritage are deeply connected to its mining history, particularly the Lucky Friday Mine which continues to operate today. While smaller than during its peak mining era, Mullan retains its character as a mountain community with historic buildings and architecture that reflect its mining town origins.

The surrounding Bitterroot Mountains and nearby Lookout Pass also make it a gateway for outdoor recreation in both Idaho and Montana.
