Mibu is a historic town located in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The town has deep historical connections to the Shinsengumi, a special police force that was active during the late Edo Period in the 1860s.
Mibu Temple (Mibu-dera), founded in the 8th century, served as a training ground for the Shinsengumi and remains an important cultural landmark. The temple is also known for its traditional puppet theater performances called Mibu Kyogen, which has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
Today, Mibu maintains its historical character while functioning as a modern suburban community, blending traditional Japanese culture with contemporary life.
