Medora is a small yet historically significant city located in the Badlands of western North Dakota. Founded in 1883 by French nobleman Marquis de Mores, who named it after his wife Medora von Hoffman, the city has preserved much of its Old West heritage.
The town serves as the gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, where the 26th U.S. President once ranched and hunted in the late 1880s. Today, Medora is known for its cultural attractions that celebrate both its natural surroundings and its Western heritage. The city maintains its historic character through preserved architecture and various cultural institutions that help tell the story of North Dakota's cowboy culture and the American West. During summer months, the city becomes a popular tourist destination, offering visitors a blend of historical, cultural, and natural experiences.
