Markleeville is a small historic town and the county seat of Alpine County, California. Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, it was established in the 1860s during the silver mining era. Named after Jacob Marklee, who established a toll bridge and station in the area, the town has maintained much of its 19th-century character.

Today, Markleeville serves as a gateway to outdoor recreation in the surrounding Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and is known for its natural hot springs. The town's historic courthouse, built in 1928, stands as a testament to its role as an administrative center and preserves local history through its small museum collection.
