Malad City is the county seat of Oneida County, located in southeastern Idaho. The city's name derives from the French word "malade" meaning sick, as early trappers reportedly became ill after drinking from a local stream. Founded by Mormon pioneers in the 1860s, the community has strong Welsh heritage, as many of its early settlers were Welsh immigrants.

Today, Malad City serves as a small agricultural and commercial center for the surrounding rural area, maintaining its historic small-town character. The area is known for its scenic location in the Malad Valley, surrounded by the Caribou-Targhee National Forest and the Great Basin landscape.
