Leiston is a small market town located in East Suffolk, England, approximately 4 miles from the North Sea coast. The town has a rich industrial heritage, particularly known for its connection to Richard Garrett & Sons, who operated the Leiston Works - a significant agricultural engineering factory during the Industrial Revolution. This industrial past is well-preserved and documented in the Long Shop Museum, housed in the former Garrett Works.

The town is also situated near the Sizewell nuclear power stations, which have played a significant role in the area's more recent history. Despite its industrial background, Leiston maintains its historic character with notable buildings including the 14th-century St Margaret's Church and the historic Abbey ruins dating back to the 14th century. The surrounding area features typical Suffolk countryside and is close to the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
