Leesport is a small borough located in Berks County, Pennsylvania, along the Schuylkill River. Founded in 1841, the town was named after the Lee family who operated a port along the Schuylkill Canal during the early 19th century. The community retains much of its historical character, with the former canal and railroad infrastructure serving as reminders of its transportation heritage.
Today, Leesport is known for hosting one of the oldest farmers' markets in Berks County, which has been operating since 1947. The borough maintains several historic structures that reflect its development during Pennsylvania's industrial era, though it remains a predominantly residential community with close ties to nearby Reading.
