Le Thoronet is a small commune located in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France. The village is primarily known for the remarkable Thoronet Abbey (Abbaye du Thoronet), one of the three famous Cistercian abbeys in Provence.
Built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, this monastery exemplifies the austere architecture of the Cistercian order and is considered a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. The abbey's exceptional acoustics and pure architectural lines have inspired both architects and musicians throughout history.
The village itself, with its Provençal character, is nestled in a peaceful valley surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, vineyards, and olive groves typical of the region.
