Köthen (Anhalt) is a historic town located in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, known for its significant cultural heritage and musical history. The town gained particular prominence in the early 18th century when Johann Sebastian Bach served as Kapellmeister at the court of Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Köthen from 1717 to 1723. During this period, Bach composed many of his famous secular works, including the Brandenburg Concertos. The town's Schloss Köthen, a Renaissance castle complex, served as the center of this cultural flourishing.
