Kapunda is a historic town located in South Australia, approximately 79 kilometers north of Adelaide. Founded in 1842, it holds the distinction of being Australia's oldest copper mining town, with mining operations beginning in 1844. The discovery of copper significantly shaped the town's development and heritage.

Today, Kapunda preserves its rich mining history through various heritage sites and monuments, including the iconic Map Kernow ("Son of Cornwall") miner statue. The town's cultural landscape is influenced by its strong Cornish mining heritage, as many of the early miners came from Cornwall, England.

While the copper mines closed in 1878, Kapunda evolved into an important agricultural center for the region. The town maintains several historic buildings from its mining era, which provide insights into early Australian industrial and social history.
