Jamestown is a historic rural town located in the Mid North region of South Australia, approximately 200 kilometers north of Adelaide. Established in 1871, it was named after Sir James Fergusson, the governor of South Australia at the time. The town developed as an important agricultural center, particularly known for its wheat farming and sheep grazing.

Jamestown retains much of its colonial heritage through its well-preserved 19th-century architecture, with notable buildings along its main street reflecting the town's prosperous pastoral history. The town is also known for being the birthplace of R.M. Williams, the famous Australian bushman and clothing manufacturer.

Today, Jamestown continues to serve as a service center for the surrounding farming community while maintaining its historical character through various heritage buildings and local historical collections.
