Hull is a coastal town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, situated on a peninsula that extends into Massachusetts Bay. The town has a rich maritime history and was originally settled in 1622, making it one of the oldest communities in the United States.
Originally named Nantasket by the Native Americans, Hull played an important role in colonial maritime defense and later developed as a popular summer resort destination in the late 19th century. The town's cultural heritage is closely tied to its seaside location, with historic sites including Fort Revere and the Hull Lifesaving Museum, which preserves the area's maritime rescue history. Hull's lighthouse, known as Boston Light on Little Brewster Island, is the oldest continually used lighthouse site in the United States, although the current structure dates from 1783.
Today, Hull maintains its character as a beach community while preserving its historical significance through various cultural institutions and historic preservation efforts.
