Hatten is a small commune located in the Grand Est region of northeastern France, in the department of Bas-Rhin. The village has historical significance particularly from World War II, when it was the site of intense fighting during Operation Nordwind in January 1945.
The battle, known as the Battle of Hatten-Rittershoffen, saw American and German forces clash in harsh winter conditions. Today, Hatten maintains its rural Alsatian character with traditional architecture and local cultural elements that reflect the region's unique French-German heritage. The village preserves its wartime history through memorials and a local museum dedicated to the Battle of Hatten.
