Hanau is a historic city located in the state of Hesse, Germany, situated at the confluence of the Kinzig and Main rivers. The city is perhaps best known as the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm, who collected and published many of Germany's most famous fairy tales.

Founded in the 13th century, Hanau developed as an important center for jewelry making and precious metalworking, a tradition that continues to influence its cultural identity today. The city's historic center was largely destroyed during World War II but has since been carefully rebuilt.

Modern Hanau combines its rich cultural heritage with contemporary urban life, featuring various cultural institutions and regular markets in its restored marketplace. The city maintains strong connections to its crafting traditions through its jewelry and goldsmith industries, while also serving as an important economic center in the Rhine-Main region.
