Haina, also known as Haina (Kloster), is a municipality located in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in Hesse, Germany. The town is primarily known for its former Cistercian monastery, Haina Abbey (Kloster Haina), which was founded in 1144. The monastery complex is one of the best-preserved medieval monastery sites in Hesse and represents an important example of early Gothic architecture in Germany.
After the Protestant Reformation, the monastery was converted into a hospital in 1533, which continues to operate today as a psychiatric clinic. The historic monastery buildings and the surrounding cultural landscape reflect the region's rich religious and medical heritage. The town's development has been closely tied to the monastery throughout its history, and today it serves as both a historical monument and a healthcare facility.
