Guben is a town situated in eastern Brandenburg, Germany, directly on the border with Poland. The town is divided by the Neisse River, with the eastern part now belonging to Poland and known as Gubin.
This border town has a rich industrial heritage, particularly in textile manufacturing, which shaped its development during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The town is known for being the birthplace of Johann Gottfried Galle, the astronomer who first observed Neptune, and houses the Plastinarium, established by anatomist Gunther von Hagens. Despite experiencing significant changes after World War II and the subsequent division of the town, Guben maintains its historical character through preserved architecture and continues to serve as an important cross-border cultural link between Germany and Poland.
