Gravelotte is a commune in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region of northeastern France. The village is historically significant as the site of the Battle of Gravelotte, one of the major battles of the Franco-Prussian War that took place on August 18, 1870.
Today, the village preserves this important historical heritage through the Museum of the War of 1870 and Annexation, which opened in 2014. The museum documents the conflict between France and Prussia, as well as the subsequent period when the region was under German control.
Beyond its military history, Gravelotte is a small rural community that maintains its traditional Lorraine character, situated in a picturesque agricultural landscape typical of the region.
