Gosnold is a unique town located in Dukes County, Massachusetts, consisting entirely of the Elizabeth Islands chain in Buzzards Bay. The town, named after Bartholomew Gosnold, the English explorer who first discovered Cape Cod, encompasses seven main islands including Cuttyhunk, Nashawena, and Naushon. With a small year-round population, Gosnold represents one of the smallest municipalities in Massachusetts.
The area has a rich maritime history, having served as an important waypoint for shipping and whaling vessels in the 18th and 19th centuries.
