Glassboro is a borough in Gloucester County, New Jersey, that earned its name from its historical significance in glass manufacturing. Founded in 1779, the town grew around the glass industry, particularly with the establishment of "Glass Works in the Woods" by Solomon Stanger and his family.

The town's cultural landscape was significantly transformed with the establishment of Rowan University (formerly Glassboro State College) in 1923, which has become a major educational and cultural center in South Jersey. Glassboro gained international attention in 1967 when it hosted the Glassboro Summit Conference between U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson and Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin at what is now known as Whitney Hall.

Today, while its glass-making heritage is preserved in local historical collections, Glassboro has evolved into a modern college town with a blend of historic architecture and contemporary development, particularly in its downtown area known as Rowan Boulevard.
