Georgetown is a historic mining town nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Clear Creek County, Colorado, at an elevation of 8,530 feet (2,600 m). Founded in 1859 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush, the town quickly became a significant silver mining center in the late 19th century. Georgetown's well-preserved Victorian architecture earned it the nickname "Silver Queen of the Rockies."
The town retains much of its historic character through its National Historic Landmark District, which encompasses more than 200 historic structures. Today, Georgetown serves as a testament to Colorado's mining heritage and attracts visitors interested in its cultural history, mountain scenery, and outdoor recreational opportunities. The Georgetown Loop Railroad, a narrow-gauge railroad constructed in 1884, remains one of the area's significant cultural and historical attractions.
