Gáldar is a historic town located in the northern part of Gran Canaria, one of the main islands in Spain's Canary Islands archipelago. Once serving as one of the two capitals of the aboriginal Guanches before the Spanish conquest, the town maintains significant archaeological and cultural importance.
The area is particularly known for the Cueva Pintada (Painted Cave), an archaeological park and museum that houses remarkable examples of geometric aboriginal cave art and provides insights into the pre-Hispanic civilization that inhabited the islands. Today, Gáldar combines its rich historical heritage with agricultural traditions, being an important banana-growing region. The town's historic center features notable examples of traditional Canarian architecture, including the Church of Santiago de los Caballeros, one of the most important religious buildings in the Canary Islands.
