Friedrichsruh is a historic estate located in the Sachsenwald forest in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The estate is primarily known for its connection to Otto von Bismarck, the first Chancellor of the German Empire, who lived here from 1871 until his death in 1898.
Today, Friedrichsruh is home to the Bismarck Museum and Archives, housed in the former railway station building. The estate includes the Bismarck Mausoleum, where Otto von Bismarck and his wife Johanna are buried. The surrounding Sachsenwald, which was gifted to Bismarck by Emperor Wilhelm I, is the largest private forest in Germany and provides a serene backdrop to this historically significant location.
