Fort Drum is a U.S. Army military installation located in Jefferson County, New York State. Established in 1908, it spans approximately 107,000 acres and serves as the home of the 10th Mountain Division. Originally named Pine Plains, the base was renamed Fort Drum in 1974 in honor of Lieutenant General Hugh A. Drum. The installation has played a significant role in military history and training, particularly for cold weather and mountain warfare operations.

The surrounding area includes the small community that has developed to support the base, and the fort maintains strong ties with nearby Watertown. The installation houses several historical collections and artifacts related to military history, including the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Museum, which preserves and presents the rich military heritage of the region.
