Fordingbridge is a historic market town located in Hampshire, on the banks of the River Avon. The town gets its name from an ancient river crossing, where a medieval bridge - which still stands today - was an important route across the Avon. Known for its Georgian architecture and picturesque riverside setting, Fordingbridge has a rich history dating back to the Anglo-Saxon period. The town was notably mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.

It has connections to the New Forest area and was once known for its smuggling activities in the 18th century. The town was also home to the celebrated artist Augustus John in the early 20th century, who lived here until his death in 1961. Today, Fordingbridge serves as a gateway to the New Forest National Park and maintains its character as a traditional English market town.
