Fiss is a picturesque village located in the Tyrolean Alps of western Austria. Originally established as a farming community in the 13th century, this traditional mountain settlement sits at an elevation of approximately 1,436 meters above sea level. Together with its neighboring villages Serfaus and Ladis, it forms part of the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region, which is known for both its winter sports facilities and summer recreational activities.
The village has managed to preserve much of its historical Romanesque architecture and cultural heritage, including the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, which features notable Gothic and Baroque elements. While tourism has become a significant part of the local economy, particularly since the development of its ski infrastructure in the latter half of the 20th century, Fiss maintains its authentic Alpine character through traditional festivals, customs, and architectural style.
