Eisenach is a historic city located in the German state of Thuringia, nestled at the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest. The city is perhaps most famous as the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the world's most influential classical composers, and as the location where Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German while hiding at Wartburg Castle.
This medieval castle, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, towers over the city and stands as a symbol of German history and culture. The city's rich cultural heritage is reflected in its well-preserved old town, featuring historic buildings from various architectural periods.
Beyond its musical and religious significance, Eisenach also has an important industrial heritage, particularly in automobile manufacturing, as it was the birthplace of BMW's predecessor, EMW, and the production site of the Wartburg cars during the GDR period.
