Eastriggs is a small village located in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, with a unique historical significance. The village was purpose-built during World War I as part of HM Factory Gretna, one of the largest munitions factories in the world at that time. Known as the 'Powder Town', Eastriggs played a crucial role in the British war effort, manufacturing cordite for ammunition. The planned nature of the settlement is still evident in its layout and architecture.
Today, this historical heritage is preserved and interpreted through the Devil's Porridge Museum, named after the cordite mixture produced at the factory, which tells the story of the area's wartime contribution and the thousands of workers, particularly women, who were employed there.
