East Aurora is a historic village located in Erie County, New York State, approximately 20 miles southeast of Buffalo. The village is particularly known for its significant role in the American Arts and Crafts Movement through the Roycroft Campus, established in 1895 by Elbert Hubbard.
This artisan community became a center for craftsmanship, philosophy, and artistic production in the early 20th century. The Roycroft community attracted artists, craftspeople, and intellectuals who practiced handcraftsmanship in printing, furniture making, metalwork, and other decorative arts.
Today, East Aurora maintains its cultural heritage through various historic sites and museums, preserving its architectural and artistic legacy. The village's Main Street features well-preserved 19th-century buildings, local shops, and cultural institutions that reflect its rich history.
