Corydon, located in southern Indiana, holds a significant place in the state's history as Indiana's first state capital from 1816 to 1825. Founded in 1808, this historic town is situated in Harrison County and has preserved much of its early 19th-century character. The town is named after a shepherd in a popular pastoral poem of the time.

The historic downtown area features the Old Capitol Building, which served as Indiana's first statehouse and is now a State Historic Site. Corydon played a notable role in Indiana's transition from territory to statehood, and many of its original limestone buildings and structures still stand today, offering visitors a glimpse into early American frontier life and governance. The town also witnessed the only Civil War battle fought on Indiana soil in 1863, known as the Battle of Corydon.
