Chonchi is a city and commune located in the Chiloé Province of southern Chile. Known as the "City of the Three Spires" due to its prominent church towers, Chonchi represents the rich cultural heritage of Chiloé Island.
The city was founded in 1754 and has preserved much of its traditional Chilote architecture, characterized by wooden buildings and churches constructed using local techniques. The historic Church of Chonchi, built in 1893, is part of the Churches of Chiloé, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The city maintains strong connections to both its indigenous Huilliche roots and Spanish colonial influences, visible in its local customs, gastronomy, and architectural style. As a coastal settlement, Chonchi has historically been linked to fishing and maritime activities, which continue to play an important role in local life and culture.
