Chambersburg is a historic borough and the county seat of Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1734 by Benjamin Chambers, the town played a significant role in American history, particularly during the Civil War.

In 1864, it became the only northern town to be burned down by Confederate forces during the conflict. Following its rebuilding, Chambersburg developed into an important transportation and industrial center in south-central Pennsylvania.

The town preserves much of its historical heritage through its architecture and cultural institutions, with a downtown area featuring 19th-century buildings and various historical markers. Today, Chambersburg serves as a cultural and economic hub for the surrounding Cumberland Valley region, balancing its historical significance with modern development.
