Caterham is a town located in the Tandridge District of Surrey, England. Situated in the North Downs, the town is split between Caterham on the Hill and Caterham Valley.

The area has a rich history dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, with records of settlement appearing in the Domesday Book of 1086. During the Victorian era, Caterham experienced significant development with the arrival of the railway in 1856, which connected it to London.

The town is notable for its former military connection, having been home to Caterham Barracks (now a residential development) which served as a major training depot for the Guards regiments from 1877 to 1995. The town also has associations with the automotive industry through the Caterham Cars company, originally based in the area, which continues to produce sports cars inspired by the classic Lotus Seven design.

Today, Caterham maintains its character as a commuter town while preserving elements of its historical and cultural heritage through various local buildings and institutions.
