Capaccio Paestum is a town in the province of Salerno, Campania, known worldwide for its remarkable archaeological heritage. The area is home to some of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples outside of Greece, part of the archaeological site of Paestum. Originally founded as Poseidonia by Greek colonists around 600 BCE, the settlement later became the Roman city of Paestum.
The town combines its rich archaeological heritage with modern agricultural traditions, particularly the production of buffalo mozzarella. The archaeological area, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, features three major Doric temples dating from the 6th to 5th centuries BCE, along with other significant ruins from both Greek and Roman periods.
The modern town serves as a gateway to these archaeological treasures while maintaining its own distinct character as a agricultural and cultural center in the Campania region.
