Callanish (or Calanais in Scottish Gaelic) is a village on the west coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The place is internationally renowned for the Callanish Stones, one of the most significant and well-preserved Neolithic monuments in Scotland. These standing stones, erected around 3000 BC, form a distinctive cross-shaped pattern with a central stone circle.
The village itself is situated in a dramatic landscape of rocky hills and coastal views, characteristic of the Hebridean environment. The area has a rich cultural heritage deeply rooted in Scottish Gaelic traditions, with the local community maintaining strong connections to traditional crofting, fishing, and textile industries, particularly Harris Tweed weaving.
