Bignor is a small village in West Sussex, England, primarily known for its remarkable Roman history. The village's most significant cultural attraction is the Bignor Roman Villa, one of the largest Roman villas discovered in Britain.
Discovered by accident in 1811 by a farmer, the villa features some of the best-preserved Roman mosaics in the country, including the famous depiction of Ganymede being carried away by an eagle. The villa complex provides valuable insights into Roman Britain's rural life and artistic achievements during the 3rd and 4th centuries AD.
The surrounding area is characterized by the rolling hills of the South Downs, offering scenic walks and views across the Sussex countryside.
