Aulac is a small rural community located in southeastern New Brunswick, Canada, near the provincial border with Nova Scotia. The area is historically significant as it sits at the entrance to the Tantramar Marshes, which were once home to Acadian settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries. The region played an important role during the struggle between British and French forces for control of North America.
Today, Aulac is known for the Fort Beauséjour-Fort Cumberland National Historic Site, which preserves the remains of a mid-18th century French fort that was later captured and occupied by British forces. The surrounding area features distinctive marshlands that have been transformed over centuries through dyking and agricultural practices, representing an important part of the region's cultural landscape.
