The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, also known as MOCAA or Zeitz MOCAA, is a contemporary art museum situated at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa. It holds the distinction of being the largest museum of contemporary African art in the world.
The museum building is a converted 57-meter high historical grain silo, which was built in 1921 and decommissioned in 2001. The architects aimed to preserve and celebrate the industrial heritage of the original structure, while simultaneously carving out large open spaces within the densely packed concrete cylinders that make up the building.
The museum complex spans nine floors and features an exhibition area of 6,000 square meters. Additionally, the museum houses 18 educational areas, a sculpture garden on the lower part of the roof, and several amenities including restaurants and a shop.
