Zandverhalen and its collection

Zandverhalen
Source

Sand Stories is the largest covered exhibition of sand sculptures in the world. In three large halls, with more than 300 sand sculptures, the story of our culture of Bibles and fishing boats comes to life, and this exhibition shows the areas of tension between the past and present. Dozens of stories, such as Adam and Eve in paradise, Moses on the mountain, the tower of Babel and the birth and crucifixion of Jesus are depicted. The sand sculptures rise to a height of 8 metres, made by the best sand artists from all around the world. Thanks to the old fishing boats and the sluice gates as tall as a house, the character of the Netherlands with its seafarers is woven throughout the whole. In order to be able to tell our Sand Stories, we used more than 4.000 m3 of sand from Markermeer in an area of more 5,000 m2 exhibition space.
