Wood Museum

The Wood Museum, also known as the "House of the Forest and Wood of the Vosges", is a unique space dedicated to the crafts and heritage of wood. It is located in the picturesque town of Saulxures-sur-Moselotte, nestled in the Lorraine region of France, specifically in the Vosges department and the Grand Est region. This museum offers a deep dive into the world of wood, its uses, and its significance in the region's history and economy.

Historical Significance and Installations at the Wood Museum

The Wood Museum traces the history of wood exploitation and its significant contribution to the economic activity of the valleys. The museum houses centuries-old installations that are still operational, including the famous Vosges high iron and a large wheel with 56 buckets. This wheel, measuring 4.20 meters in diameter and 1.25 meters wide, turns at a rate of 16 revolutions per minute, offering a fascinating glimpse into the past.

Visitor Experience at the Wood Museum

The Wood Museum welcomes visitors from all over France and even from abroad. Guided tours are available in both French and English, making it accessible to a wide range of tourists. During two months in the summer, guides perform dynamic demonstrations, bringing the history and craft of wood to life. For the rest of the year, members of the association volunteer to introduce this historic place to visitors, ensuring a warm and informative welcome throughout the year.
