Waterlandsmuseum de Speeltoren illustrates the history of Monnickendam and Waterland. The museum shows the origins of a classical Dutch landscape. Topics that are covered include monasteries and monks, fisheries and ship transport over sea. The centerpiece of the museum is the old town hall tower after which the museum is named. In the tower, the visitor can see the carillon.
