Vridsløselille Prison, located in Albertsløselille, Denmark, is a former state prison with a rich history. It was operational from 1859 to 2016, serving as a correctional facility for men over the age of 23. The prison was known for its strict enforcement of imprisonment and execution of arrests, housing a total of 241 inmates at its peak.
The State Prison in Vridsløselille gained fame through Erik Balling's movies about The Olsen Gang. Almost all the movies in this series begin and end in front of the prison's main entrance, making it a recognizable landmark. Furthermore, the road leading to the prison was renamed after Ove Sprogøe's famous character from the movies, Egon Olsen, further cementing the prison's place in popular culture.
