Denmark is a country in Europe with more than 5.5 million inhabitants. The country is a peninsula that separates the North Sea from the Baltic Sea. The capital of Denmark is Copenhagen, which is also the largest city in the country. Other major cities are Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg.
The country was, together with Norway and Sweden, one of the most powerful countries in the world because of the Vikings between the 8th and 11th century. The country has several people who are known all over the world, including the astronomer Tycho Brahe (1546), King Christian IV (1577), the fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen (1805), the philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (1813) and the physicist Niels Bohr (1885).
Denmark has several places on UNESCO's World Heritage List with among other places: the burial mounds, rune stones and Jelling Church, Roskilde Cathedral, Kronborg Castle, Ilfissi's ijsfjord on Greenland, the Wadden Sea and Stevns Klint.
