VanDusen Botanical Garden is a beautiful botanical garden situated in the Shaughnessy neighborhood of Vancouver, British Columbia. It is named after local lumberman and philanthropist Whitford Julian VanDusen. The garden was opened to the public in 1975 and is jointly managed by the Vancouver Park Board and the Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association.
The Garden's Visitor Centre, which opened in 2011, is a modern structure designed and built to a LEED Platinum standard. It features a gift/garden shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs, a specialized botanical library for those interested in learning more about the plant world, and a restaurant and coffee shop for refreshments.
Covering 22 hectares (55 acres), the Garden offers a diverse display of plants from all over the world. It boasts an extensive collection of native British Columbia (Northwest Coast) plants. Special features in the garden include carved totem poles, a small Japanese garden, large stone sculptures, and a maze adjacent to VanDusen's heirloom vegetable garden.
