The Van Gogh House in Veenoord/Nieuw Amsterdam is the only publicly accessible house in the Netherlands in which Vincent van Gogh lived and worked. The room where Vincent painted is decorated as if the painter could return at any moment from a trip in the peat. Vincent van Gogh stayed at the Scholte lodging house (now: the Van Gogh House Drenthe) from October 2th to December 4th 1883. Here he finally made the choice to further develop his skills in painting. This 'Vincent story' has been told through an impressive audiovisual presentation since October 2, 2023 (after a major 'makeover').

Van Gogh Huis Drenthe has 1 rating.
The Van Gogh Huis in Veenoord, the Netherlands, offers visitors a glimpse into the early life of the renowned artist Vincent van Gogh. Located in the house where Van Gogh lived and worked for a brief period in 1883, this small museum provides an intimate look at the artist's formative years. The museum has recreated the interior to reflect the time when Van Gogh resided there, giving visitors a sense of the environment that influenced his early work.
Visitors appreciate the authentic atmosphere and the opportunity to stand in the same rooms where Van Gogh once lived. The museum features reproductions of Van Gogh's sketches and paintings from his time in Drenthe, providing context to his artistic development. The staff is often praised for their knowledge and enthusiasm, offering insights into Van Gogh's life and work.
However, some visitors note that the museum is quite small and the experience can be brief. The lack of original artworks may disappoint those expecting to see Van Gogh's paintings. Additionally, as the museum is focused on a specific, short period of Van Gogh's life, it may not provide a comprehensive overview of his entire career.
The rural location of the museum in Veenoord adds to its charm but can make it less accessible for those without private transportation. Some visitors suggest that the museum could benefit from more interactive exhibits or audio guides to enhance the experience.
Overall, the Van Gogh Huis offers an educational and atmospheric experience for those interested in Van Gogh's early career and the influences of his time in Drenthe. While it may not be a major art museum, it provides a unique perspective on the artist's life that complements visits to larger Van Gogh collections elsewhere.
