Twickel is a castle that is mentioned for the first time in 1347. The oldest parts of the current castle date from the 16th century. It is situated on an estate of four thousand hectares that consists of fields and meadows, forests with old oaks, meres, lakes, heathes and ‘houtwallen’. On the property are approximately 150 farms, with black and white shutters, two water mills, a water tower and a sawmill.

    Voor een huwelijksaanzoek op 7 juni 2026 hadden wij vooraf zowel telefonisch als per e-mail toestemming gekregen van Stichting Twickel om de opgang naar het kasteel tijdelijk te versieren met LED-kaarsen en bloemen.

    Tot onze verbazing werden wij tijdens de voorbereidingen aangesproken door mevrouw Liesbeth Hassink, beheerder van de buitenplaats. Zij stelde dat wij geen toestemming hadden en direct moesten vertrekken. Ondanks het tonen van de verleende toestemming ontstond een vervelende discussie. Ook haar echtgenoot mengde zich in het gesprek, wat wij als intimiderend hebben ervaren.

    Na meerdere telefoongesprekken werd uiteindelijk bevestigd dat wij wel degelijk toestemming hadden en mochten blijven. Helaas was hierdoor veel kostbare tijd verloren gegaan, waardoor dit bijzondere moment onnodig stressvol werd.

    Wij vinden het jammer dat mevrouw Hassink niet bereid leek de aanwezige documentatie direct te bekijken en dat er onvoldoende interne communicatie was over de verleende toestemming. Wij hopen dat Stichting Twickel de afstemming rondom dergelijke afspraken verbetert, zodat toekomstige bezoekers een vergelijkbare ervaring bespaard blijft.
