Museum Bussemakerhuis is a monumental ‘fabrikeurshuis’. It is the only remaining 18th century linen ‘fabrikeurshuis’ in the Netherlands. The museum illustrates the Born linen history in the 18th and 19th century. The museum covers four main topics: linen, ‘fabrikeurs’, the Mennonite Church in the Netherlands and the history of the house. On Thursdays, volunteers work with the original looms.

Museum Bussemakerhuis in Borne, the Netherlands, offers visitors a glimpse into the history of textile production and Dutch domestic life. The museum is housed in a well-preserved 18th-century building that once belonged to the Bussemaker family, who were prominent linen weavers.

The museum's exhibits showcase the art of damask weaving, displaying antique looms and tools used in the textile industry. Visitors can see demonstrations of traditional weaving techniques, which many find educational and engaging. The museum also features period-furnished rooms that depict the lifestyle of a wealthy merchant family from the 18th and 19th centuries.

While the museum is small, it compensates with its focused and well-curated collection. Many visitors appreciate the attention to detail in the exhibits and the knowledgeable staff who provide informative guided tours. The museum offers insight into a specific aspect of Dutch industrial and cultural heritage that is not commonly found elsewhere.

However, some visitors note that the museum's appeal might be limited for those without a specific interest in textiles or local history. The information provided is primarily in Dutch, which can be a drawback for international visitors, although some English translations are available.

The museum's location in the historic center of Borne adds to its charm, allowing visitors to combine their visit with a stroll through the picturesque town. While not a large or flashy attraction, Museum Bussemakerhuis provides a authentic and educational experience for those interested in Dutch textile history and heritage.
